The display adapter I am testing is the nVidia 6800 OC by BFG. Drivers are 66.81.
These are a series of screenshots I took in Far Cry while changing the Anistropic Filtering Level from the four settings of 1, 2, 4 and 8. For the images below I turned off all three optimizations and set the 6800 to Quality image settings.
You can clearly see the quality improve as textures get clearer with each level of filtering. YOu get a massive improvement by turning it on. In the first set the fence is almost completely blurred, and the #2 setting clears up almost all of it. Look at the sign in the first set, it's blurry in the top one and very sharp at the bottom. The fence dissapears completely as well in the upper images as you get farther away.

Last two images show what turning on Trilinear optimization and
Anistropic sample optimization does. Detail in the rope is missing
and there are patches in the grill that vanish as well in the second
image.
First image is optimizations disabled,
second is with them enabled.
